Amazon Prime is dominating the young adult (YA) romance and book-to-screen adaptation space in 2026, with a slate of highly anticipated releases. Among the biggest are Off-Campus, The Love Hypothesis, Elle, Every Year After, and the third season of Maxton Hall. The streaming platform has made romance a key focus, as highlighted at Prime Video's Obsessed Fest fan event in Los Angeles.
Off-Campus: A Hit for Amazon MGM Studios
Amazon MGM Studios' biggest smash-hit this year is Off-Campus, based on Elle Kennedy's book series. The show follows elite hockey players and their romances, perfect for fans of Heated Rivalry. Season 1 centers on “the unlikely romance between wry, hockey-hating music major Hannah Wells and Briar U's womanizing star center Garrett Graham as they strike a deal to help each other out.” The fake-dating plot doesn't unfold as expected. While some viewers found the show cringe-worthy, fans have largely praised it for depicting female desire, body positivity, and emotionally intelligent male characters. High-stakes sports action adds to the tension.
The Love Hypothesis: Chemistry on Screen
The Ali Hazelwood cinematic universe expands with The Love Hypothesis. Author Hazelwood serves as an executive producer of this book-to-movie adaptation. The story follows third-year biology Ph.D. candidate Olive Smith (Lili Reinhart from Riverdale) and professor Dr. Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) as their fake relationship blossoms into something real. The film begins streaming on Prime Video on September 23.
Elle: A Legally Blonde Prequel
The prequel series to Legally Blonde, titled Elle, sits firmly in the bingeable YA category. Lexi Minetree portrays a high school version of Elle Woods, filling big pink boots. The series debuts on July 1.
Every Year After: A Will-They-Won't-They Tale
Based on Carley Fortune's BookTok novel sensation Every Summer After, Every Year After offers a will-they-won't-they love affair to rival Belly and Conrad. The show has already been renewed for a second season, based on Fortune's sequel One Golden Summer. Fans reportedly cancelled plans to binge the show.
Maxton Hall: Returning for Season 3
One of the earliest page-to-screen adaptations, the German-language series Maxton Hall is based on Mona Kasten's Save Me book trilogy. The show, set at prestigious Maxton Hall College, follows scholarship student Ruby Bell and trust-fund kid James Beaufort. Season 3 is scheduled for December. Cast members promoted the series at Prime Video's Obsessed Fest.
At Obsessed Fest, held at nya Studios in Los Angeles, Prime Video teased several other films and shows, emphasizing coming-of-age stories, book adaptations, and romance as key platform focuses.
