A woman was left furious after her boyfriend made a huge mistake that would cost her £219 to undo, so she demanded he pay up. When you are in a relationship, you might happily lend things to your partner, trusting they will treat them with respect. However, one woman was proven wrong when her boyfriend made a serious error.
She explained that her boyfriend was going to a party out of town and asked to borrow her AirPods for the train journey. 'I was hesitant, but I eventually agreed on one condition: he would bring them back just as they were,' she admitted. She also pointed out that she is a student, so the AirPods would not be easily replaceable if lost.
Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened, but he tried to cover it up. She explained: 'After the party, Matt came home pretty drunk and handed me my AirPods back. I immediately started using them, but as soon as I put one in my ear, something felt off. My phone did not connect automatically, which I first assumed was because Matt had been using them all day. But after trying to reconnect them, I realised they were not actually mine. They were AirPods of the exact same model, but they belonged to someone else.'
The woman was so annoyed and told him they were not her headphones. Thankfully, she was able to track her actual ones, which were at a random address near where the party had been, but not at the host’s house. However, it was not good news for the AirPods when she made her boyfriend go and pick them up for her, as they had been smashed and destroyed. 'Apparently, the owner of the house had found them at the train station after they had been run over,' she shared.
Her boyfriend found out the AirPods belonged to his friend and said she could keep them because the guy whose AirPods they were owed her boyfriend money. However, she did not want to, as they were not the same, and a key feature would not work. 'I do not really feel like it should now become my responsibility to accept some random replacement just because he and his friend decided it evens things out between them,' she fumed.
The woman concluded: 'He also got slightly upset when I brought up the idea of him just buying me a new pair. He says he tried to fix the situation, but I personally do not think giving someone else's used headphones is enough, after you did not take enough good care of something that did not belong to you. He also told me that I should give him a break, cause he has a lot going on... He does think my reaction is valid, but has not really done much to really make it seem like he is genuinely sorry. If I were him, I would have bought a new pair immediately, no question.'
In the comments, someone said: 'He needs to replace YOUR property, per your agreement. Giving you HIS FRIEND'S AirPods is cheap, unhygienic, and DISGUSTING. Anything other than replacing your property is not optional.' Another fumed: 'Basic manners when you borrow something: return it in the same condition you got it, if not better.' Somebody else wrote: 'Even after destroying your AirPods, he could have salvaged the situation by letting you know what happened and handing his friend's AirPods for you to use temporarily while he got you a replacement. The fact that he just slyly handed you his friend's AirPods and hoped you would not notice is very dishonest, and I would not be able to trust a person after they pulled something like that.'
