Millions of people across the UK could be eligible to receive up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payment as temperatures drop. The DWP payment is designed to help with heating bills during the colder months.
Who qualifies for the payment
Those born on or before June 27, 1960, could receive between £100 and £300. The amount depends on when you were born and your circumstances between September 21 to 27, 2026, which was the qualifying week that determines how much each individual will receive.
How payments are made
Payments are typically made automatically in November and December. Those already receiving benefits like State Pension will get the payment automatically without needing to check eligibility.
If you don't receive certain benefits, you may need to claim by the deadline of March 31, 2027. According to GOV.UK, you should receive a letter telling you how much you'll get and which bank account it will be paid into.
Who is not eligible
However, you won't be eligible if you get Universal Credit, Pension Credit or income-related ESA and lived in a care home from June 29, 2026 or earlier.
