Super Greens Powder Recall: 45 Sick in US Salmonella Outbreak
Super Greens Recall After Salmonella Sickens Dozens

Federal health officials in the United States have confirmed a significant Salmonella outbreak linked to a popular dietary supplement, prompting a nationwide product recall. At least 45 individuals have been taken ill.

Product Recall and Distribution

The outbreak has been traced to Live it Up-brand Super Greens powder, manufactured by Superfoods Inc. The company has issued an urgent recall for both its original and wild berry flavours. The affected products have expiration dates running from August 2026 to January 2028.

Authorities have advised consumers who possess these products to immediately stop using them. They should not be consumed, sold, or served. Customers are urged to either dispose of the powder safely or return it to their point of purchase for a full refund.

The supplements were distributed across the entire country. Cases of illness connected to this outbreak have been identified in a total of 21 states:

  • Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky
  • Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska
  • New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee
  • Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Illness Details and Ongoing Investigation

According to joint information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the reported illnesses occurred between 22 August and 30 December 2025. Of the 45 confirmed cases, at least 12 people required hospitalisation. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported at this time.

The FDA has stated that its investigation is ongoing and active. The agency has warned that additional batches or products could potentially be contaminated, indicating the recall scope may widen as the probe continues.

Symptoms and Health Advice

Salmonella poisoning symptoms typically begin within hours or a few days after ingesting contaminated food. Key signs to watch for include:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Fever
  • Stomach cramps and abdominal pain

While most healthy adults recover without specific treatment within a week, the infection can turn severe for vulnerable groups. These include children under the age of 5, adults aged 65 and older, and individuals with weakened immune systems. In such cases, Salmonella can lead to serious complications requiring medical intervention.

This incident serves as a critical reminder for consumers, both in the US and for British buyers of imported health supplements, to stay informed about product safety alerts from regulatory bodies like the FDA.
