People expecting a State Pension or benefit payment this month may see the money arrive earlier than usual due to the upcoming bank holiday. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and Social Security Scotland have confirmed that some payments scheduled for Monday, August 31 will be made on Friday, August 28 instead. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is expected to follow a similar revised payment pattern.
Why payments are being made early
DWP offices and phone lines will be closed over the bank holiday. Payments are typically issued when all services are available, including webchat and Jobcentre Plus offices. As a result, payments due on August 31 will be brought forward to August 28.
Payments affected
The early payment applies to several benefits, including State Pension, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Child Benefits, Adult Disability Payment (ADP) and Attendance Allowance. If your payment is not due on the bank holiday, it will be issued as normal.
DWP payments
DWP has not yet confirmed any payment date changes but is expected to follow the same revised pattern as HMRC and Social Security Scotland. Payments due on August 31 will be issued on August 28.
