After testing more than 10 vacuum cleaners, one model has stood out: the Shark PowerDetect Transformer, a three-in-one appliance that converts between an upright, a stick, and a handheld cleaner. Priced at £499.99, it impressed a reviewer with its ability to collect dirt that other vacuums missed, especially in a home with four cats.
Cleaning Performance Surpasses Expectations
The reviewer, Sophie Harris, noted that after vacuuming her floors with her usual cleaner, the Shark still filled its dust container with dirt and debris. This demonstration of cleaning power made her question how clean her floors had been before.
The vacuum's PowerDetect technology adjusts cleaning performance based on detected conditions, such as flooring type, dirt amount, and proximity to edges. Reveal lighting helps highlight dust and debris that are hard to spot under ordinary lighting.
Versatile Three-in-One Design
The main selling point is the three-in-one design, allowing users to switch between a full-size upright, a stick vacuum, and a handheld cleaner. This reduces the need for multiple appliances, as the same machine can handle floors, furniture, stairs, and other areas.
Additional features include Anti-Hair Wrap technology to prevent hair tangling, odour-neutralising technology, HEPA filtration, and a sealed system to capture dust and allergens. The bin system allows the smaller dust collector to empty into the larger container when reconnected.
Weight and Cord Considerations
One drawback is the vacuum's weight, which is substantial in its upright position. It is also corded, limiting freedom compared to cordless models, though it eliminates battery life concerns.
Despite these considerations, the reviewer believes the £499.99 price is reasonable and worth it. The vacuum is available directly from Shark or from Argos at the same price.
Customer Reviews and Alternatives
Customer reviews on the Shark website praised the vacuum's performance, with one saying, "This hoover is incredible, it is the best one I've had, honestly, I didn't realise how much dust was harbouring in the carpet till I put this to use!" Another noted it is "brilliant, especially for pet hair." However, some mentioned it is "heavy and cumbersome," and the handheld is "not that powerful."
Alternatives include the Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum for those preferring cordless designs, the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute at £649.99 for a premium cordless option, and the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog, a traditional corded canister design popular among pet owners.
