Scots can now 'earn as they eat' at top restaurants and bars across Glasgow and Edinburgh, with the money-saving app Shuffle offering up to 100 per cent cashback on meals and drinks.
Dining out is considered a luxury for many during the cost of living crisis, with households struggling to juggle rising food prices. The hospitality industry has suffered as a result, and many Scottish restaurants are looking for ways to encourage people back.
How the Shuffle app works
The Shuffle app works by linking a bank card so diners can visit partner restaurants and automatically receive a completely random cashback reward, sometimes up to 100 per cent. Priced at £2.99 per month, average savings per Shuffle customer are expected to be around £30 per month.
It is also a win for the independent venues, as they receive upfront investment in return. The offer is available at multiple places, from brunch spots and cosy cafés to family-friendly pubs and high-end restaurants.
Glasgow and Edinburgh venues
Glasgow locals can cash in at city centre favourites such as Ralph and Finns, Glaschu, Blue Dog, Malo and Vroni's. Meanwhile in the capital, pizza parlour Slice Syndicate, Asian offering and Bodega all reward cashback via the app.
Co-founders Ollie Purdue and Enzo Ottens launched Shuffle in Manchester in 2024 before bringing the app to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Ollie said: "Edinburgh has more Michelin stars per capital than London. It's got a different food scene, but it's also very exciting."
He added: "We want to focus on growing Edinburgh; we've got great restaurants in the city, but there's plenty of room to expand. We want to help open at least ten great restaurants across Edinburgh as well as Glasgow."
Supporting independent venues
Spotting similarities between Manchester and Scotland's biggest city, Ollie praised Glasgow for its 'buzzing' food scene and stand-out independent venues.
He said: "Glasgow has Michelin-starred restaurants, and it's a city where people enjoy going out. Glasgow's buzzing."
He continued: "We chose cities that, like Glasgow, are fiercely independent, where people really care about restaurant owners. We won't fund a big chain, but we will back independents."
Ollie noted: "Shuffle did really well in Manchester, and we think Glasgow and Manchester are similar cities. They've both got quite a big population and a defined city centre where people go to work and go out at the weekends. They've also got foodie hubs around the city."
