Pot Noodle's Piri-Piri Chicken flavour has been urgently pulled from shelves over a potential health hazard after undeclared allergens were found. The product contains milk, which is not declared on the label.
The affected products carry the batch code 'L6232PB796' on top of the foil lid, with a best-by date of May 2027.
Unilever urges customers to return product
Unilever issued a statement urging customers not to consume the product and to return it to the store for a full refund.
'We are recalling this batch because the safety of the people who buy and use our products is our top priority,' the statement said. 'Other batches of Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken Flavour and other Pot Noodle products are not affected by this issue.'
Recent Salmonella outbreak linked to eggs
Last month, Salmonella cases sharply increased after being linked to imported eggs in England. The outbreak was linked to small cafes, restaurants and takeaways, according to the UK Health Security Agency.
The cases were spread over three different clusters which are genetically different but part of a wider family of Salmonella enteritidis, UKHSA said. The majority of cases, 305, and one death, were linked to one strain of the illness in England.
All the Salmonella samples from patients seen in hospitals are analysed through genome sequencing, which allows authorities to identify the outbreak's starting point.
Symptoms of Salmonella are mild in most cases, causing diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever. But infections can sometimes be serious, particularly in young children, pregnant women, older people and people with weakened immune systems.
