Unilever has issued a product recall for its 90g Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken due to a production error. The product, sold at Tesco, Asda and Iceland, may contain milk and other ingredients not declared on the packaging, posing a potential health risk to anyone allergic or intolerant to milk.
Affected batches and where to find them
The affected batches carry the code L6232PB796 and a best before date of May 2027, printed on the top of the foil lid. Unilever confirmed that other batches of Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken Flavour 90g and other Pot Noodle products are not affected by this issue.
Unilever said: “We are recalling this batch because the safety of the people who buy and use our products is our top priority. Other batches of Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken Flavour and other Pot Noodle products are not affected by this issue.”
What shoppers should do
Shoppers are urged not to eat the product and can return it to stores for a full refund. Alternatively, customers can contact the Unilever support team for further information. Consumers do not need to provide proof of purchase, but Unilever said they should send a photograph of the product showing the batch code and best before end date.
Unilever added: “We are sorry for any inconvenience and concern.” Those wishing to contact Unilever should email ukicare@unilever.com or call 0800 146 252. The firm advised anyone who has purchased the product and has an allergy, intolerance or health concerns to seek advice from a medical professional.
Regulatory response
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised Unilever to contact relevant allergy support organisations, which will inform their members about the recall. A spokesperson for the FSA explained: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).”
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
