Oral-B iO7 vs iO9: Which Smart Electric Toothbrush Is Worth It?
Oral-B iO7 vs iO9: Which Smart Electric Toothbrush Is Worth It?

Oral-B's iO7 and iO9 were among the first brushes in the iO series, addressing common complaints about electric toothbrushes being too harsh by introducing micro vibrations, which also made them quieter. Both models feature AI brushing recognition technology via an app that tracks brushing in different zones of the mouth, using a gyro sensor and accelerometer inside the handle.

The iO9 can track 16 sub-zones, ensuring each surface of every tooth is cleaned, while the iO7 tracks six zones. This extra detail may help users reach neglected areas like the underside of molars. The iO9 includes a Power2Go charging case, whereas the iO7 comes with a magnetic charger and a travel case.

The iO7 offers five cleaning modes: daily clean, whitening, gum care, sensitive, and intense. It has a black-and-white OLED display to show the selected mode. The iO9 also has multiple modes, but the key difference is the ability to track more sub-zones and the inclusion of the Power2Go case for on-the-go charging.

Both brushes require three hours for a full charge, lasting over two weeks of regular use. The iO7 is available only in white alabaster, while the iO9 may have additional colour options. The app connection on the iO7 was generally smooth, though occasional lag was noted.

Ultimately, the choice between the iO7 and iO9 depends on whether the extra sub-zone tracking and the Power2Go case justify the higher price. For most users, the iO7 offers sufficient features at a lower cost.
