Octopus Energy has overhauled its customer reward scheme, replacing the first-come-first-served model with a weekly scratchcard game. The change aims to eliminate the Monday morning rush that saw over 60,000 early birds setting alarms to claim limited perks.
New Scratchcard System
Octoplus members must now open the app every Monday and scratch a digital card before midnight for a chance to win. Prizes range from free coffees at Greggs to holidays and gig tickets. The company says the new system gives everyone an equal opportunity throughout the day.
Chief Marketing Officer Rebecca Dibb-Simkin said: "We constantly innovate to make energy better for people, and Octoplus is one such example. We built it to reward customers for getting involved, and our new Monday scratchcard is the latest way we're sprinkling a little joy into the week."
Wider Range of Prizes
New brands joining the rewards roster include MUBI, Krispy Kreme, Forest Bikes, Lidl, and UberEats. Customers who do not win instantly can enter a second-chance draw for bigger prizes, such as a luxury trip for two to Dubrovnik. Other perks include VIP Bruno Mars tickets, Camp Bestival hospitality packages, cinema ticket deals, National Trust day passes, and free streaming on Rakuten TV.
Mixed Customer Reactions
Some customers expressed disappointment online, with one saying: "Very disappointed to hear we will no longer get our coffees, it stopped me from looking at other energy suppliers." Another added: "Think it's time to get off the Octopus train, last decent thing was the free coffee." However, a Reddit user defended the change: "Seems preferable to always finding there are none available."
In response, Octopus Energy wrote on social media: "We wanted to make things fairer so every Octoplus member gets an equal chance to win throughout the day, without the morning rush."
Customer Satisfaction
Octopus Energy ranks high in customer satisfaction. Consumer group Which? named it the second-best UK provider for 2026, giving it one of the highest customer scores and a recommended provider status.
