Plans have been submitted that could bring the long-closed Six by Nico restaurant site on North John Street back into public use. The venue has been shut since August 2022 due to flooding, but a new premises licence application hints at a different future.
Background of the Closure
Six by Nico opened in 2019 and was popular with customers weekly. It closed in August 2022 after water ingress, caused by badly sealed walls, filled a storage room, rotted the floor, and led to mould. The founder, Nico Simeone, took legal action against the freeholder, Highneal Ltd, for over £4.4 million to cover losses and refurbishment costs.
New Licence Application
The application, lodged by OMG L1 VENUE LIMITED, seeks to amend the existing premises licence. It would add live and recorded music performances and extend opening hours until 2.30am daily, with alcohol sales until 2am. The current licence allows 10am to midnight Monday to Saturday and 11.30pm on Sundays.
The applicant is unnamed, and the building currently contains rolls of insulation. The dispute with Highneal was resolved through a Tomlin Order in April last year, but details remain private.
Next Steps
The application will be considered by Liverpool Council licensing officials, though a date is yet to be confirmed. Representations can be made until August 28.
