High street retailer Marks & Spencer has issued an urgent product recall affecting two of its popular honeycomb chocolate treats, warning customers they may contain undeclared milk that could cause "serious" health consequences for those with allergies.
The recall affects M&S Honeycomb Milk Chocolate 150g with best before dates of 31 March 2025 and 01 April 2025, alongside the larger M&S Honeycomb Milk Chocolate 300g sharing bag with the same best before dates.
Serious Health Risks for Allergy Sufferers
In an official notice, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the products contain milk that isn't mentioned on the label, creating a significant danger for customers with milk allergies or intolerances.
"This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents," the FSA statement warned.
What Customers Should Do Immediately
M&S is urging customers who have purchased the affected products to take immediate action:
- Do not consume the products if you have a milk allergy
- Return the items to your nearest M&S store for a full refund
- No receipt is required - customers can return the products without proof of purchase
The retailer has displayed point-of-sale notices in stores providing detailed information about the recall to alert customers who may have purchased the chocolate products.
Ongoing Investigation
While the specific cause of the labelling error hasn't been disclosed, M&S has confirmed they're working closely with food safety authorities and have initiated their own internal investigation into the matter.
This incident serves as a crucial reminder for consumers to always check product labels, particularly those with food allergies, as manufacturing processes and ingredients can sometimes change without immediate updates to packaging.
