Marks & Spencer's own-brand smooth peanut butter has been crowned the best for fibre content in a new test by Which?, outperforming pricier rivals like Whole Earth and Pip & Nut. The £2 jar contains 10.1g of fibre per 100g, making it the top performer among more than 80 nut butters examined.
The M&S option is made from high-oleic peanuts, which contain 30% more monounsaturated fats than standard varieties, helping to lower harmful cholesterol. It also contains no palm oil and has a longer shelf life.
Whole Earth's 100% nuts peanut butter came second with 10g of fibre per 100g, available at Waitrose for £2.50. M&S's crunchy version took third place with 9.7g per 100g, also priced at £2.
At the bottom of the rankings, five products shared the lowest fibre content at 5.4g per 100g: Duchy Organic crunchy, Aldi Grandessa 100% nuts (crunchy and smooth), and Lidl's Maribel 100% options (crunchy and smooth).
Which? advises choosing nut butters with 100% nuts to maximise nutritional value, as added ingredients like palm oil dilute nut content. For those watching their weight, a level teaspoon per day is recommended.
