Mid Priced Fish And Chips Wins Taste Test Over Cheap And Expensive

A food blogger in Gloucester has named a mid-priced fish and chip shop the winner after taste-testing cheap, mid-range and expensive options. Becca Stock, known as Becca Eats Everything on TikTok, tried offerings from three different outlets in her local area and was surprised by the results.

The cheapest option, from Sizzling Pubs, cost £9.49 and included mushy peas and curry sauce. Becca described the batter as 'soggy' and 'undercooked', the fish as 'mush', and overall rated it one out of ten. The most expensive, from The Chip Shed, cost £19.90 for lemon sole and chips, but Becca found the batter 'terrible' and gave it five out of ten despite praising the chips.

The winner was the mid-priced fish and chips from Queen's Fish and Chips in Gloucester, costing £13.48 for a large battered cod and chips. Becca rated it eight out of ten, calling the chips 'reasonably fluffy' and the fish 'flaky' and 'meaty' with a 'nice, thick, fresh, crunchy batter'. She concluded that £13.50 was a fair price for the quality.

Becca said she was 'shocked' that the expensive option tasted no better than the cheap one. Her verdict comes amid the cost of living crisis, which has made takeaways a less frequent treat for many households.
