Martin Lewis urges over-55s to use free will service by October end
Martin Lewis: over-55s urged to claim free will by October

Martin Lewis is urging people aged 55 and over to check whether they can get a will drawn up for free before the end of October.

Free Wills Month sees participating solicitors waive their usual fees, with people encouraged to leave a donation to charity in their will. Mr Lewis said a suggested bequest is around £300, but there is no need to pay it upfront.

Will Aid available in November

The consumer expert also highlighted Will Aid, which runs in November and offers basic wills through solicitors, who likewise waive their fees. Donations are requested, but people unable to afford one do not have to pay.

Mr Lewis said: "It's a win-win all round — so if you don't have a will, take advantage, especially if you're not married."

How to take advantage

The scheme is available to those aged 55 and over, with the deadline for Free Wills Month falling at the end of October. Those who miss it can still use Will Aid in November.

Mr Lewis's advice highlights the potential savings for those who have not yet made a will, with the suggested bequest of around £300 serving as a guide for those who choose to donate.
