The National Lottery Lotto draw on Saturday, April 18, offered a jackpot of £7.1 million, with the winning numbers announced at 8pm. The Thunderball draw followed shortly after, with a top prize of £500,000.
Since its inception on November 19, 1994, the UK National Lottery has distributed funds beyond winners: approximately half of ticket sales go to prizes, 28% supports good causes, and the remainder is split between government duty (12%), retailers (5%), and the operator (5%).
The largest Lotto prize to date was £35 million, won by a single anonymous ticket-holder in April 2016. More recently, a syndicate of retired Tata Steel workers from Port Talbot won £1 million on the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker code in February.
Results for both draws were published live, with the Thunderball numbers offering a £500,000 top prize.
