Jet2 Warns Passengers Packing Supermarket Slim Shakes May Face Security Tests

Jet2 has advised passengers that packing certain supermarket items, such as meal replacement shakes, could lead to additional security checks. The warning came after a passenger named Andrea inquired on X about bringing sachets of Tesco Slim meal replacement powder on a flight from the UK to Spain.

In response, Jet2 confirmed that the sachets are permitted in both hand and hold luggage, but cautioned that if carried in hand luggage, passengers may be asked to taste or test the powder at security. The airline requested a photo of the product to verify its nature before issuing the advice.

Most airports recommend packing food and powders in hold luggage to avoid delays, as these items can obscure X-ray images or be mistaken for suspicious materials. Passengers who must carry such items in hand luggage should allow extra time for potential manual checks.

UK government guidance states that food and powders in hand luggage may obstruct X-ray machines, requiring further inspection. For flights to the US, restrictions apply to powders over 350ml or 350g, with exceptions for medical powders, baby powder, and human ashes, which are subject to additional verification.
