ITV star Alysia Vasey, best known as the Yorkshire Forager, has claimed that her husband "racked up" mountains of credit card debt, leaving her financially "trapped". The wild food expert, who regularly appears on James Martin's Saturday Morning, also revealed that she is headed for divorce, despite having only tied the knot last year.
Alleged unauthorized spending
In a new social media post, the 54-year-old alleged that her estranged husband had splurged and purchased expensive items on her credit card without her knowledge or consent. Addressing fans, Alysia stated: "Sometimes you just think to yourself, how did I get into such a stupid position? I'll tell you how it starts. It starts where you think."
She explained: "You know, you pay your own way, and I'm a big believer in that. You know, money coming in. I was doing quite well, and I'll buy the shopping. You know, my contribution."
Details of the financial strain
Alysia, who married the mystery man last year, fumed: "Bearing in mind he's got like a six-foot-seven, thirty-one-year-old son, farming, and everybody eats like a horse, so a massive amount of food bills."
"Anyway, get to the checkout and go, 'Oh you've got dodgy knees. You go sit yourself down, just give me a card, and I'll pay for it.' And then later on, you're like, 'Have you got my card?', 'Oh yeah, it's in the other pocket.' And then you forget about it, don't you?"
"And then before you know it, there's a £600 computer chip gone on [it] for a tractor, and all of a sudden everything's being racked up," the TV star furiously recounted. The expert slammed: "You get your credit rating trashed, and you know what? Then you're trapped."
Impact on personal life
While Alysia didn't reveal the identity of her estranged husband, she shared that he is a farmer while divulging more about their breakup. She said: "I'm a big believer in love, marriage, everything, but I just got taken for a ride. Got all the money taken from me. Everything, absolutely everything, it's been a struggle. Absolute struggle these last eight, nine months."
As the daytime star added: "I didn't expect it," she admitted: "I feel a bit embarrassed by it all, but it is what it is."
The devastating posts come just a year and a half after she announced live on Saturday Kitchen that she had got married and revealed she would be going by her new married surname, Greenwood. At the time, James said: "I am not going to get the hang of this. I have been calling you Alysia Vasey for years now." To which she responded: "Better foraging name, Greenwood."
