Hotel Chocolat's £90 'Ostrich' Easter Egg Leaves Reviewer Confused

Hotel Chocolat has released its reimagined Ostrich eggs for Easter 2025, with the Classic Ostrich Egg priced at £90. The hefty treat weighs a kilogram and comes in two halves of milk chocolate, wrapped in shiny foil. The reviewer described it as resembling a 'somewhat dishevelled golden snitch from Harry Potter'.

The egg is so large that it is not suitable for hiding like typical Easter eggs. Its price tag is comparable to a flight to Alicante from Liverpool John Lennon Airport in early June. The Classic version features 40% milk chocolate with cookies and puffed rice, and 60% milk chocolate with wafer, alongside a selection of filled chocolates.

The packaging is a chic white tin resembling a footstool, which the reviewer likened to carrying a toddler. Opening the lid felt cinematic, but the novelty quickly faded. Breaking into the solid chocolate was a challenge, described as potentially 'withstanding a few rounds with Mike Tyson'.

The taste was classic and smooth, more akin to pure cacao than standard Dairy Milk, but the reviewer struggled to justify the near-£100 price tag. Due to its size and slightly sickly aftertaste, it needed to be savoured slowly. The reviewer concluded they would not recommend it to chocoholics.
