Homeless in England: Share Your Story of Getting Off the Streets

The Guardian is asking people who have been homeless in England to share what helped them off the streets and into accommodation for good. The callout comes as Andy Burnham, the prime minister, has pledged another £100m to end street homelessness.

What Helped You Off the Streets?

Was it a government initiative, help from a charity, or the support of friends and/or family? Or perhaps a combination of some or all of these? The Guardian also wants to hear about your experience of homelessness and how you look back on that time.

Government Pledge to End Rough Sleeping

Burnham has called on local leaders to offer all rough sleepers in England a route off the streets by Christmas. He has promised a Covid-style campaign to get everyone off the streets this winter, arguing that rough sleeping has become so common it now “feels like part of the scenery”. Tackling homelessness is a central policy for Burnham’s government.
