A social media user known as @lifeofjazz_ has shared a clever trick to effectively double hand luggage allowance without paying extra fees. The key is placing a smaller bag inside a larger one, such as a Boots or Duty Free bag, which airport staff cannot inspect if purchased airside.
She advises rolling clothes to maximise suitcase space and boarding early to secure overhead locker storage. Her crossbody bag counts as a personal item, while the Duty Free bag serves as additional carry-on.
Fellow travellers endorsed the method, with one commenting: “I do the duty thing too. Get a cheeky meal deal from Boots and ask for the biggest bag.” Another noted that transparent makeup bags can replace official plastic pouches for toiletries, regardless of size.
Other tips include carrying an empty water bottle through security to refill at water stations, avoiding the first refill point which is often crowded. Compression socks, a light sweater, noise-cancelling headphones, and a portable charger were also recommended for longer flights.
