Electric blanket 'very cheap to run' now £27 after autumn price cut
Electric blanket 'very cheap to run' now £27

The Livio Electric Heated Blanket, described by shoppers as 'very cheap to run' and 'wonderfully cosy', has been reduced to £27 at Yimbly, offering a low-cost way to stay warm as households look to cut heating bills.

Following Ofgem's energy price cap rise earlier this month, the blanket is priced at £29.99, down from £39.99, and the voucher code AUTUMN10 reduces it further to £27. This undercuts Amazon's listing, where it sells for £33.99. The blanket comes in the colour 'Sand', a neutral beige suited to sofas or beds.

Running costs and features

The maker states it costs 4p per hour to run, based on an average electricity unit rate of 26.32p/kWh under the Ofgem energy price cap for October to December 2026. It offers nine heat settings and a one- to nine-hour timer with automatic shut-off.

Users control it via a detachable digital controller showing time and temperature settings, which allows the blanket to be machine washed. For those preferring a darker shade, Lakeland stocks the StaySnug Sherpa Electric Heated Throw in dark grey, which the retailer says costs approximately 26p per day to run and features nine heat settings.

Shopper feedback

Customers have left mixed reviews. One Yimbly buyer commented: "Was very surprised at how fast the delivery arrived. Also the blanket seemed very soft and smooth." Another wrote: "I have a couple of other electric blankets. The Livivo from Yimbly is the best. Good settings - even on 'low' the whole of the blanket warms up. Others are patchy. Very soft fabric and good length plug wire. Very good value."

On Amazon, one customer said: "Love to snuggle on the sofa with this throw, means I can turn the heating lower and save energy and money." However, one buyer deducted a star over the controls, stating: "Big disappointment that to turn on the switch is at the side of the controller instead of a press button on the front. As I have arthritis in my fingers, I find it difficult to turn on."

Customer praises 'best invention ever'

Another shopper detailed their experience: "I bought this because I love being warm and use my under heated blanket every night without fail. However, I was spending too much time in bed because it is warmer with that heated blanket, and I just can't afford to have the heating on all the time downstairs, and a hot water bottle was not cutting it."

They added: "So I decided to invest in this, and it is the best invention ever. It gets amazingly warm, and not just lukewarm; the highest setting is really hot (a safe hot, not dangerous), and it keeps me wonderfully cosy on my sofa, which gets me out of bed. My cats love it, I love it, and my nephew's been stealing it for his room when he's gaming to keep warm, so I bought him another one."

The shopper concluded: "It is the best £45 I've ever spent and is worth every penny. If you want to save money on heating but don't want to freeze in your own home, this is definitely worth the investment."

For a cordless option, Silentnight's Heat Genie Self Heating Giant Blanket (£34.99 at Amazon) requires no plugging in, using a heat-reflecting foil layer to redirect body heat. One Livio purchaser noted: "Love this heated blanket, my partner bought it for me as he won't allow the heating on as it's too expensive. Thank goodness for this, I use it all the time in winter. It's a good size and lovely and soft and is very cheap to run."
