The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that there will be no Cost of Living Payment in 2026 and no further payments are planned, while warning the public about related scams.
No further payments planned
The DWP issued a series of Cost of Living payments in 2022, 2023 and 2024 to eligible households. However, on its website, the department states: "There will be no Cost of Living Payment for 2026 and there are no more payments planned in the future."
It advises that any messages suggesting otherwise are scams and could lead to people being conned out of their own cash.
Scam warnings
Some scams include calls, emails or messages that pretend to be from a government service or an energy bill support scheme. The DWP adds: "If you get a message asking for your personal details (for example, bank details or passwords) this could be a scam. Report anything you think is suspicious."
Alternative financial help
While no future Cost of Living payments are planned, financial help may still be available to those struggling. For example, Universal Credit may be claimed by people on a low income, out of work, or unable to work.
Those caring for someone who receives certain benefits for at least 35 hours a week may be eligible for Carer's Allowance. Many other benefits may also be available, with claims and further information accessible through official channels.
Energy bill support
People on benefits or a low income may be eligible for the Warm Home Discount Scheme, energy-saving improvement schemes, or home energy support payments. Under the Warm Home Discount Scheme, a £150 reduction on electricity bills may be available to those receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or on a low income.
Cold Weather Payments may also be received by people living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland who get certain benefits.
