DWP lists 25 stomach conditions for £748 monthly PIP

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed a list of 25 stomach and intestinal conditions that can qualify for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), with eligible claimants able to receive up to £748 per month.

According to the latest DWP data, there are currently 40,458 qualifying PIP claims linked to these conditions. The annual benefit uplift in April saw PIP rates rise by 3.8%.

PIP structure

PIP is not a flat-rate payment. It is split into two components based on how a condition affects a claimant's independence. The daily living component covers extra costs of managing everyday tasks, with a standard rate of £76.55 per week and an enhanced rate of £114.80. The mobility component addresses getting around, with a base rate of £30.20 and an increased rate of £80.10.

Claimants who qualify for the enhanced daily living rate and a portion of the mobility support can receive up to £187 per week, totalling £748 per month.

The DWP emphasises that the list is not exhaustive. The department focuses on how a condition impacts quality of life and daily routines, rather than the specific diagnosis. The full list of conditions and number of qualifying claims is as follows:
