Amazon shoppers are praising a £10 hanging dehumidifier pouch that absorbs moisture and helps clear window condensation, damp and musty smells in cars and homes. The device, which can be suspended in vehicles, bathrooms and wardrobes, is designed to stay effective for up to 60 days depending on temperature and surrounding conditions.
How the dehumidifier pouch works
The white crystalline substance inside the pouch extracts moisture from the air and converts it into water. When the crystals have fully dissolved, the pouches need to be replaced with new ones. The improved version features superior material quality and a more robust hanger that will not drop once filled with water.
The dehumidifiers cost £6.49 for a pack of three, or £9.98 for a pack of six, with the latter working out at £1.66 per unit. Amazon buyers have awarded them 4.6 stars out of five, based on over 6,500 reviews.
Highway Code rules on window condensation
Window condensation can lead to fines. Under Rule 229 of the Highway Code, drivers must ensure all windows and mirrors are thoroughly cleared of mist and ice before setting off. The rule states: "Before you set off, you must be able to see, so clear all your windows."
As morning temperatures drop, many motorists are battling condensation on their car windows, which can delay journeys and prove difficult to eliminate.
Shopper reviews and alternatives
One buyer remarked: "Absorbs the damp well. I have one in my car. It's not so cold and damp in there on winter mornings, and I have one in the bathroom and there's no mould on the tiles now." Another said: "Repeat customer as very effective for collecting moisture and reducing effects of dampness in wall cupboards and other spaces."
A further purchaser wrote: "Takes a few days to start noticing the difference, I hang these from my curtain rails so I don't have to open the window in the winter, and in my car to reduce the amount of condensation I get. Absolutely fab." Another added: "I used these in my car as I have a bad damp problem in there. They work well and collected a lot of moisture, I'm going to buy more. Really recommend these."
However, one reviewer flagged a possible concern, noting: "While the product did absorb water from my windows, the collected water all leaked back out again. Tried three of the pack, all the same result."
