Air fryers are a staple in many UK kitchens, prized for quick cooking and energy savings. However, keeping them clean is essential for performance. A cleaning expert has shared a simple method using three common kitchen ingredients that eliminates the need for scrubbing.
Chantel Mila, known as Mama Mila on TikTok, recommends removing the air fryer basket and placing it in the sink. Generously coat any stuck-on grime with baking soda, then drizzle washing-up liquid over it. Pour boiling water on top to create a fizzing reaction that loosens burnt food.
Allow the mixture to sit for a while, then pour away the dirty water. No scrubbing is required. For tougher spots, a baking soda paste can be used. The combination of baking soda and washing-up liquid breaks down grease and targets bacteria, ensuring the air fryer is clean and safe.
Dr Oetker explains that baking soda's gentle abrasive nature removes grime without causing wear and tear. Its alkaline properties also neutralise odours, leaving the air fryer fresh. This method is effective for greasy kitchen surfaces and pans.
