Cadbury fans praise 'unbelievable' Moro bar back on UK shelves

Cadbury Moro Gold chocolate bars are back on UK shelves, imported from Australia and sold at B&M for 80p each. The bars are prompting shoppers to recall the original Moro, a long-lost Irish treat from the 1980s, 90s and 2000s.

The original Cadbury Moro, sold in Ireland, featured nougat, shortcake biscuits and caramel covered in Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. A peanut version replaced the Starbar in 2006, and a limited-edition coconut flavour, nicknamed 'Bounty Moro', was released in 2007. All versions disappeared in 2015 when Cadbury rebranded Moro as Boost in Ireland, though the bar remained available in Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

Shoppers share their memories

The Moro Gold bar sold in B&M has a chocolate-flavoured centre with crunchy biscuit pieces, surrounded by caramel and wrapped in milk chocolate. Its release has sparked nostalgia among shoppers, who say the Irish version was 'unbelievable' and 'better than Boost'.

On Facebook, Brian Flattery said: 'These were around in the 90s in Ireland!! Unbelievable!!' Bobby Conway commented: 'Moro was out years ago here in Ireland, then it became a Boost bar, but Moro was a lot nicer.' Kirsty Bradbery wrote: 'It's just like a Boost, but I actually thought the chocolate itself was better.' Robert White said he used to 'love' the Moro bars 'years ago', while Scott Ferguson added: 'It's better than a Boost… bigger and a bit more caramel.'

Other nostalgic comebacks

The Moro revival follows other retro returns. Blue Nun, an 'embarrassing' wine from the 80s, has made a comeback and is now considered cool, according to Metro's drink columnist Robertson Buckhaven, who thinks the new version will be a 'crowd-pleaser'. It costs less than £6 a bottle at Asda.

McDonald's is also bringing back Snack Wraps in the UK from October 6, after 10 years away. Priced at £1.99, the wrap features one Chicken Select, lettuce and cool pepper mayo inside a soft flour tortilla.
