Brits ditch takeaways over cold food and high prices

Nearly half of Brits (48%) want to kick their takeaway habit because of repeated disappointments, according to research for Chicago Town. The study found that many are fed up with spending money on food that doesn't taste great (43%), while 36% get upset when their dinner arrives stone cold.

Hungry customers were also unhappy when items were missing from their deliveries, and winced at expensive delivery charges and delays.

Why Brits are turning away from takeaways

The findings reveal that despite the Saturday night takeaway being a fundamental part of British life, many are seemingly moving away from food deliveries over concerns about price and quality. Hungry Brits were also unhappy when they found items missing from their deliveries and winced at expensive delivery charges and delays.

But the poll showed that even though people are frustrated, more than one in four (28%) still find themselves unable to avoid being lured back in and ordering at least once a week. Whether it's a treat, a serious craving or simply not having the energy or ingredients to cook, Brits are still turning to deliveries as a default.

Returning to restaurants and choosing home options

Hungry customers are even returning to restaurants they swore they'd never go back to, with more than a quarter (28%) admitting they were giving them one more chance.

One of the top reasons Brits may steer clear of the apps, and opt for an easy pizza night at home, is to save money (37%). Meanwhile, one in five (21%) are sold on how simple it is with little washing up and no waiting for someone to rock up with an order. A similar number loved the idea of having a meal in the freezer ready to go.

Campaign encourages home pizza choice

The study, which quizzed 2,000 British adults, comes as Chicago Town launches its 'Why Order When This Is At Home?' campaign. It encourages Brits to stop putting up with disappointing deliveries and rediscover the pizza that's waiting in their freezer.

Rachel Bradshaw, Head of Marketing - Pizza at Chicago Town, said: "We all know that feeling when you’ve been looking forward to takeaway and ordered in, only to be let down. Yet, what's interesting is that we still keep giving it another chance. With Chicago Town, you've got a hot, generously topped pizza with an indulgent stuffed crust ready to enjoy straight from the freezer."

Bradshaw added: "Because when pizza this good is already at home, why order in?"
