Bank of Scotland is closing 28 branches throughout 2026 as part of wider branch closures across the Lloyds Banking Group. The latest closures are due to take place next week, with two branches set to shut their doors. The bank is the oldest in the country and is part of the Lloyds Banking Group.
October Closures: Hawick and Grangemouth
The first branch to close is the Hawick one, a market town in the Scottish Borders. The branch at 7 High Street will close permanently on October 7, 2026. This will be followed by the Grangemouth branch in Falkirk. Located at 24 La Porte Precinct, the branch is due to close on October 8, 2026.
As of writing, the Bank of Scotland has no more planned closures for the remainder of 2026.
Reason for Closures
For both branches, the Bank of Scotland stated: "Before we close any branch, we look at how customers are doing their banking. Most customers prefer to use our mobile app, online banking or call us." The bank added that it is "because of this" that the branches will be closing.
In Part 2 of the Branch Review for Hawick, Bank of Scotland said about the feedback it had received following news of the closure: "Some customers shared their concerns, disappointment or questions about the closure. Colleagues supported them by explaining the alternative ways to bank available locally and helping them identify the most suitable options for their needs."
"A councillor wrote to us expressing disappointment at the closure. We responded and explained that a Banking Hub was being provided as an alternative, and explained the services it can provide."
For the Grangemouth, it wrote: "Some customers shared their concerns, disappointment or questions about the closure. Colleagues supported them by explaining the alternative ways to bank available locally and helping them identify the most suitable options for their needs."
"Brian Leishman MP asked us why the branch is closing, where the new Banking Hub will be and the services that will be available. We explained the reasons for the closure, outlined the alternative ways customers can continue to bank with us, and provided information on the Banking Hub and future cash access arrangements."
Support for Customers
To make the changes smoother, Bank of Scotland said it has contacted individual customers at each branch who it knows use the branch as their main way of banking, including customers who may need additional support. Customers have been informed about alternative ways to bank and offered help where needed. At both Grangemouth and Hawick, branch colleagues have held digital support events to help customers register for and use online and digital banking services.
Bank of Scotland said it has partnered with the Digital Helpline, which provides free one-to-one support over the phone to help customers use the internet for banking. Customers identified as needing additional assistance have been given the relevant contact details to access this free support.
