Asda has recalled five products after a serious health risk was found that could cause damage to the reproductive system. Testing of the products proved they present "a serious chemical risk" with potentially dangerous chemicals found.
Recall notice issued for footwear
The supermarket chain has issued a recall notice and customers have been told to stop using the items immediately and return them to the nearest Asda store for a full refund. You do not need a receipt to return the product at any Asda store for a refund.
The recall notice has been issued for Asda men's hiker boots and shoes in black, grey and khaki.
Chemicals above permitted limit
Testing of the footwear identified the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), "above the permitted regulatory limit."
Asda has said that: "Prolonged exposure to these substances may pose a risk to human health and may cause damage to the reproductive system. The product does not meet the requirements of the REACH Regulations 2008."
