Aldi Sells Bomberry Dupe: Chocolate-Covered Berries for Half Price
Aldi's Bomberry Dupe: Choc Berries at Half Price

Aussies are flocking to Aldi stores after shoppers discovered that the budget supermarket chain is selling a dupe for a popular frozen treat at nearly half the price. The latest 'Limited Time Only' product in Aldi's freezer section is the Orchard & Vine Chocolate Coated Berries.

The frozen treat comes in two varieties: Strawberries Dipped in White & Milk Chocolate or Raspberries Dipped in White & Dark Chocolate, both priced at $5.99 for a 150g bag. However, treat lovers quickly noticed the striking resemblance to Bomberry, a similar product sold at Woolworths for $11.90.

'BOMBERRY DUPE,' alerted one Victorian Aldi shopper in an online discussion, sharing a picture from a Geelong store. The post sparked a frenzy of comments. 'I want these so bad,' one shopper wrote. 'I need to plan a trip to Aldi to get these, they look delicious,' another agreed. One person joked: 'I didn't look for them because I know I'd eat the whole bag myself.'

Lucky customers who already tried the copycat dessert confirmed it lived up to expectations. 'I bought the raspberry ones yesterday and have eaten them all lol. So flipping good!!' one replied. 'If you're reading this and haven't tried them yet... jump on them, they're so yum!' another added. However, some shoppers lamented difficulty finding the item in local stores. 'I'm still yet to find them,' one complained. Another urged considerate buying: 'just buy one single packet so everybody else can try some.'

Australian food blogger Nectro Vlangos, known as @nectoriouspapi, also spotted the treat and shared a video on Instagram viewed over 1.2 million times. 'Aldi has got chocolate covered strawberries. It's double dipped in white and milk chocolate. There's also dark chocolate raspberries – 84 calories per serve,' he said. Nectro tried one straight from the bag, cautioning that the back-of-pack instructions recommend letting them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes to soften. 'The chocolate is so yum,' he confirmed, but laughed that eating them immediately might 'break your jaw or your tooth.' 'Overall, these are mad,' he concluded.

Comments on his video highlighted the similarity to Bomberry, which Woolworths sells in three varieties: Dark & White Chocolate Raspberries, Milk & White Chocolate Raspberries, and Milk & White Chocolate Blueberries, all in 150g tubs for $11.90. 'Omg yum, they look just like Bomberry but bigger. Will have to try these,' read one reply. 'Looks like there's an Aldi version,' another added. One person noted: 'Was only just saying how good Bomberry would be in strawberry!' Another cheeky reply read: 'Bomberry, who?' Some also compared the product to Tru Fru, an overseas frozen dessert. 'Tru Fru in Australia?!' one excited comment read. Most replies expressed eagerness to find the treat in stores, hoping to get their hands on the cool, trendy item.
