Aldi has confirmed a major change to its opening hours across 97 UK stores. The German supermarket giant has started closing some of its stores an hour earlier, Monday through Saturday.
At the moment, the majority of Aldi's over 1,080 stores close at 10pm Monday to Saturday, though 50 of them had already closed at 9pm before the change was introduced. The supermarket selected shops with lower footfall in the final hour of trading for the trial and is inviting shoppers to give their feedback on the move so that it can be considered in any long-term decisions.
Change in force since July
The change, which came into force in July, is understood to have been made in the hopes of saving money. It is not currently known whether further branches will be included in the trial or when the final decision will be made. Notices have been put up in the affected stores.
Aldi explained that it is continually looking for ways to make savings and keep prices low for customers. It said: "As the UK's cheapest supermarket, our commitment to customers is that they will always pay the lowest possible prices every time they shop with us. Our efficient business model means that we are always looking for new ways to pass on even greater savings to Aldi shoppers."

The full list of Aldi stores closing earlier includes locations across the UK, such as Liskeard, Brighton, Glasgow, Coventry, and many others.
