Adam Olverson has pleaded not guilty to murdering his father, Thomas Olverson, who was shot dead at their family farm in Scarisbrick two years ago.
The 31-year-old, of Marsh Hey Farm, Pinfold Lane, Scarisbrick, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday where he was arraigned on a murder charge. He also denied manslaughter, possession of a double-barrelled 12-bore hammer shotgun without a licence, and possession of ammunition without a licence.
Incident and initial charges
Emergency services were called to Marsh Hey Farm at about 5pm on July 25, 2024, following reports of gunshots. Thomas Olverson, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old man was initially arrested and bailed as investigations continued.
On June 29 this year, Adam Olverson was re-arrested and charged with manslaughter and firearm possession. He first appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on July 1, before the murder charge was added at the crown court hearing.
Bail and trial date
Judge Robert Altham, the Recorder of Preston, granted Olverson bail. A pre-trial review is scheduled for February 22, and a trial has been set for April 19, 2027, expected to last three weeks.
