Sadio Mane Dropped Huge Hint About Premier League Return After Man Utd Contract Agreement
Sadio Mane Hinted at Premier League Return After Man Utd Deal

Sadio Mane previously dropped a significant hint about returning to the Premier League after his departure from Liverpool. The 34-year-old spent eight years in English football before moving to Bayern Munich in 2022. Currently, the Senegal international is focused on his nation's World Cup campaign, with his team facing France and competing in a group also containing Norway and Iraq.

Mane's Premier League Legacy

During his six-year spell with Liverpool, Mane established himself as one of the world's best attacking talents. He played a crucial role in the Reds' Premier League and Champions League triumphs under Jurgen Klopp. After joining Bayern Munich, he struggled during a challenging year in Germany, sparking questions about his future.

Newcastle United Interest

It was at this point that Mane encountered Newcastle United supporter Martin Callanan, a Conservative life peer in the House of Lords. Lord Callanan was at a conference in Senegal and asked the former Liverpool star about a potential transfer to Newcastle in 2023. In a post on X, the politician said: "I'm in Senegal speaking at the EITI conference. Honoured to meet Sadio Mane in the hotel. I couldn't resist asking him about coming to Newcastle next season. His enigmatic reply: 'Never say never!'"

While this may have simply been a courteous response from Mane, who joined Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr later that summer, it did hint at the possibility of moving to another Premier League club.

Manchester United Contract Agreement

Mane previously showed he was prepared to alter his transfer plans before completing his move to Liverpool in 2016. He confessed that he had agreed to join Manchester United from Southampton before opting for Liverpool instead. "I was really close to going to Manchester United. I had the contract there," he recalled to The Telegraph in 2022. "It was all ready, but instead, I thought, 'No, I want to go to Liverpool.'"

Mane chose to join Liverpool over Manchester United, convinced by Klopp's project. Former United manager Louis van Gaal later confirmed the club's interest in Mane, stating: "Sadio Mane is a true team player and this is the reason why I really wanted to sign him (at Manchester United). These are difficult players to play against."

Current Career

Mane has scored 51 times in 129 appearances during his three years at Al-Nassr. The experienced forward will be hoping to help steer Senegal through to the World Cup knockout stages this summer.
