A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following reports of an attack in Wigan. Paramedics were first called to Bryn Street in the Ince area at around 10.35pm on Friday evening (July 31). Police were then called to the scene amid an 'ongoing disturbance' at an address.
The victim, named as 56-year-old Brian Cunliffe, had blood coming from his face, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said. He refused medical care at the scene, saying he could not remember how he got his injuries and that he would go to hospital himself in the morning.
Death in hospital
At around 12pm on Saturday, staff at Salford Royal Hospital told police that Mr Cunliffe was in a life-threatening condition. Sadly, he died of his injuries on Sunday.
A murder probe was launched and two arrests have since been made. Two men, one aged in his 50s and another in his 30s, are being questioned on suspicion of murder by detectives in GMP's Major Incident Team.

Police said it is believed that the victim and suspects knew each other. Detective Inspector Hulston said: “I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time, our family liaison officers are supporting the family of the deceased, and we are ensuring they are fully updated throughout.
“We are continuing to establish the full facts of this incident, but we believe both suspects and the victim were known to each other. I would like to reassure the community in Wigan that this is an isolated incident. We have two men in custody who are currently being questioned by my officers, we will provide further updates when we know more.”
