Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed plans to close more UK high street branches next month as part of a move to shut 250 locations by the end of 2027. The news comes weeks after Lloyds Banking Group confirmed that it is shutting down the Halifax banking app ahead of plans to scrap the Halifax banking brand entirely. All Halifax banking apps will be removed from app stores on October 31. Halifax customers will instead need to bank with Lloyds and use the Lloyds app to access their accounts.
The closures are the latest to hit the UK high street after numerous restaurant and shopping chains closed their doors over the course of the year. Stationery chain Typo confirmed closures across the UK earlier this month, and HMV announced weeks ago that it will be closing its London Oxford Street location three years after reopening due to rising rent. Earlier this year, TG Jones, formerly WH Smith, announced shop closures, along with the Premier Inn-owned restaurant and pub chains Beefeater and Brewers Fayre.
