Juventus are willing to wait for Alisson Becker's contract at Liverpool to expire, according to reports from Italy. The Brazilian goalkeeper has established himself as one of the best keepers to ever feature at Anfield.
The 33-year-old has entered the final year of his deal, meaning this summer and January are the Reds' last chances to extract a transfer fee for him, if they wish to do so. He has been linked with a move to Turin all summer, but it appears the Serie A heavyweights are willing to be patient.
Similar to Alexander-Arnold move
Reports from Italy understand they may wait until next summer to sign him as a free agent, similarly to how Real Madrid signed Trent Alexander-Arnold, before their eagerness to deploy him in the Club World Cup resulted in them paying the club £8.4million to sign him early.
According to GOAL, Juventus are happy to have a temporary goalkeeping solution for this season before making a charm offensive for the Brazilian next season. It's understood Zion Suzuki is expected to be the placeholder for Luciano Spalletti's side, even though the Japan international signed for Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Despite the latter, it's been reported he will be loaned to Juventus for one year, essentially making him a bridge option until they can move for Alisson next season.
Liverpool's stance
Liverpool's position on Alisson's future has been that they've wanted him to stay this season. Reds manager Andoni Iraola made this clear in a recent press conference. "I believe he will be an extremely important element in helping the new players adapt, whether they are experienced or young players," Iraola stated.
"We need role models within the dressing room, such as Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Joe Gomez, players who have spent many years at the club," he added. "And I am confident that we will get this kind of support."
Before the World Cup, it was also reported by ESPN Brazil that Alisson rejected a move to Juventus this summer after they offered him a three-year contract. It was also stated he intends on fulfilling his deal before considering his future throughout the season.
Alisson's Liverpool legacy
Liverpool broke a transfer record which had stood for 17 years to sign Alisson from Roma in the summer of 2018. They shelled out £66.8m to break the £32.6m transfer record Juventus set in 2001 to sign Gianluigi Buffon from Parma.
Just like Buffon, Alisson's performances have paid his transfer fee back and then some. He has made 333 appearances for Liverpool, keeping 137 clean sheets. Since his arrival, which came a matter of weeks after Lloris Karius' two mistakes against Real Madrid cost Liverpool the Champions League title, Alisson has won the Champions League, two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the Club World Cup.
