In-N-Out CEO Confirms No East Coast Expansion, Rejects Modernisation
In-N-Out CEO Rules Out East Coast Expansion and Modernisation

In a blow to eager fans on the East Coast, In-N-Out's CEO has firmly stated that the beloved burger chain will not be opening locations in New York or Florida anytime soon. Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson, the CEO, has made it clear that the company prioritises maintaining its high standards over aggressive expansion, meaning no imminent leap into the eastern half of the United States.

Commitment to Quality Over Rapid Growth

Snyder-Ellingson emphasised that In-N-Out will not compromise on quality simply to expand its footprint. She highlighted that the chain's success stems from its focus on customer interaction, service, and a warm, welcoming culture. This philosophy rules out the adoption of modern trends like mobile ordering and delivery, which many competitors have embraced.

Expansion Plans and Corporate Moves

Despite the lack of East Coast expansion, In-N-Out continues to grow steadily. The chain, which operates over 430 locations across the US, with about two-thirds in California, is opening new restaurants in states such as Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. In January 2023, the company announced an expansion of its corporate office in Tennessee, focusing on increasing its presence in the southern state.

Rumours surfaced in July 2025 about a potential shift to the East Coast after Snyder-Ellingson relocated her family near the Tennessee hub. However, she quickly clarified that this move does not signal any changes for California locations, reaffirming her pride in the chain's origins and loyal customer base there.

Preserving a Family Legacy

As the granddaughter of founders Harry and Esther Snyder, Snyder-Ellingson views In-N-Out as a family business and is dedicated to upholding their legacy. She expressed a desire to champion the values and traditions established by her grandparents, ensuring the chain remains true to its roots.

Menu and Reputation

Founded in 1948, In-N-Out Burger is renowned for serving fresh, inexpensive burgers and fries, with popular items including the Double-Double burger and Animal Style fries. The chain boasts a commitment to freshness, avoiding freezers and microwaves in its restaurants. This dedication has earned it top rankings in lists like Yelp and USA Today, attracting fans nationwide, including celebrities such as Michael B. Jordan.

In contrast to competitors like Burger King, which are implementing AI and other modernisations, In-N-Out plans to continue its traditional approach. Snyder-Ellingson stated that the chain will keep operating as it has for decades, focusing on the core elements that have made it a cult favourite.
