Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, Bank of Scotland Close 24 Branches

Customers in Greater Manchester are set to lose more access to face-to-face banking services this week as Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, and Bank of Scotland proceed with another wave of branch closures. A total of 24 branches across the United Kingdom have either already shut their doors or are scheduled to close in the coming days.

Reasons Behind the Closures

The banks attribute these decisions to evolving customer behaviors, as more individuals now manage their finances online or through mobile banking apps instead of visiting physical branches. However, this move has sparked significant concern, particularly among elderly customers who depend on the additional support provided by in-person banking services.

In a statement, NatWest explained: "We have recently announced that we are closing some branches. You can still bank with us in many other ways. Banking has changed dramatically in recent years. There is more demand for mobile and online services, allowing you to benefit from a faster and easier way to bank." The bank added: "We understand the closure of your local branch will bring some changes, and we want to make sure you are fully informed and supported every step of the way."

Alternative Banking Arrangements

NatWest and Lloyds Banking Group, which operates Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, assure customers that alternative banking options will be available. These include temporary community banking events and dedicated banking hubs in some affected areas.

Among the 24 branches closing nationwide, two are located in Greater Manchester. Halifax's Didsbury branch is scheduled to close on Wednesday, June 10, while Lloyds Bank's Altrincham branch ceased operations on Tuesday, June 9.
