Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have officially responded to a formal bid from an investment consortium seeking a minority stake in the club. The consortium is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and backed by the Mittal family, whose net worth is valued at over £26 billion by Forbes. Bhatia recently left his role as co-owner of Queens Park Rangers.
FSG Statement on Investment
An FSG statement given to the ECHO said: "An investment consortium led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club." No agreement is in place, and talks remain at an early stage. Reports also suggest Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was approached about joining a new consortium, but Sky Sports notes caution regarding his potential involvement. FSG bought Liverpool for £300 million in October 2010; the club is now valued at £5.2 billion by Forbes.
Iraola's Transfer Demands
Andoni Iraola has set out his priorities for the remainder of the transfer window. Speaking from Chicago, where the Reds are on pre-season tour, he said: "A winger for example, we definitely need to sign a winger, but there are other situations where we will have to analyse what the market gives you." He also acknowledged right-back could be addressed depending on Conor Bradley's recovery from a long-term knee injury.
