Tragedy at Fistral Beach
Emergency services, including police, coastguard and ambulance, were called to Fistral Beach in Newquay at around 9.45pm on Sunday, July 26, following reports that two people had been recovered from the water. Despite efforts, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s, both from Doncaster, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Victims Identified as Father and Daughter
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the two victims were a father and daughter. The family, who have not been named, are hoping to find a handbag that was reportedly carried into the water by the woman. The handbag is described as orange or peach in colour, with a shoulder strap, and made of leather-style material, approximately 30cm by 30cm in size. It is believed to contain personal items of great sentimental value.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard has been responding to an incident in the South Fistral area, Newquay, overnight. First informed at around 9.30pm (26 July), Coastguard Rescue Teams from Newquay, Padstow and St Agnes, lifeboats from Newquay RNLI and an HM Coastguard helicopter were sent to the scene, alongside other emergency services."
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson added: "Police were called by the South Western Ambulance Service at around 9.45pm on Sunday 26 July following reports that two people had been recovered from the water at Fistral Beach, Newquay. Emergency services attended and a cordon was put in place, which has since been removed. Sadly, a man and a woman were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their families have been informed, and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner."
