Angie Marcela Ramírez Vargas, 27, was driving her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Pitalito, Colombia, when a motorcyclist opened fire at close range. She managed to drive about 100 metres before losing control and crashing. Paramedics took her to hospital, but she died from multiple gunshot wounds shortly after. The attack occurred at traffic lights outside the Gran Plaza San Antonio shopping centre on the evening of 24 July.
Attack and Arrest
According to reports, armed attackers on a motorbike drew alongside her car and fired repeatedly before fleeing. Police launched a manhunt and cordoned off the area. Officers recovered a motorcycle and a weapon believed used in the assault. One suspect, Hermes Gaviria Cuellar, 48, was found hidden in vegetation after an intense chase. Police believe he was the passenger who fired the lethal rounds. The second perpetrator escaped on foot along a riverbank and remains at large.
Victim's Background and Investigation
Police chief Colonel Javier Alberto said: "We set up an operational device and, thanks to the immediate reaction of our officers, we achieved the capture in the act of a 48-year-old man after a wide pursuit." The victim was known for sharing glamorous photos of her travels, family occasions and daily life on social media. Friends described her as an entrepreneur and model. Detectives are still pursuing the motive and the outstanding suspect.
