Co-operative Bank Launches £175 Switching Incentive with Charitable Twist

The Co-operative Bank has unveiled a compelling new current account switching offer, providing both new and existing customers with the opportunity to receive up to £175 in cash rewards. This initiative, strategically timed to coincide with International Women's Day, carries a significant charitable dimension through a partnership with domestic abuse charity Refuge.

Substantial Financial Incentives for Account Switchers

Customers who complete a full switch to an eligible Co-operative Bank current account can secure a £100 upfront payment, followed by three monthly £25 "stay" payments, culminating in a total potential reward of £175. Beyond the cash incentive, switchers will gain access to a highly competitive Regular Saver account offering an impressive 7.00% Annual Equivalent Rate (AER).

This savings product allows customers to deposit up to £250 per month, potentially earning approximately £113 in interest over a full year. The Regular Saver represents one of the market's most attractive rates currently available, adding substantial value beyond the initial switching bonus.

Eligibility Requirements and Account Details

To qualify for the £100 upfront payment, customers must complete specific requirements within 30 days of finalising their full switch:

  • Deposit at least £1,000 (including any transferred balances)
  • Maintain two active Direct Debits
  • Conduct at least 10 debit card or digital wallet transactions
  • Register for online and/or mobile banking services

New customers must apply for an eligible account while the offer remains active and request a full switch within two weeks of account opening. Both new and existing customers must complete the switching process within eight weeks of initiating the request.

The three subsequent £25 monthly payments require customers to meet the same deposit, Direct Debit, and transaction thresholds each month. This offer applies to several account types including the Standard Current Account, Current Account Plus, Privilege, Privilege Premier, and Everyday Extra accounts. Notably excluded are Smile, Student, and Cashminder accounts. Customers who have received a switching incentive from the bank since November 1, 2022, are ineligible for this promotion.

Charitable Partnership with Refuge

Throughout March 2026, The Co-operative Bank will make donations to Refuge for every qualifying switch completed between March 2 and March 31. The bank has committed that for every four customers who switch accounts, it will fund a safe night in a refuge for a woman and her children fleeing domestic abuse.

Hayley Lowell, Head of Current Accounts at The Co-operative Bank, emphasised the initiative's dual purpose: "Everyone deserves to feel safe, and that belief is at the heart of what we're doing this International Women's Day. We're working closely with Refuge to help women and their children find safety and begin rebuilding their lives."

Lowell added: "And throughout March, for every four customers who switch to us, we'll help fund a safe night for a woman and her children escaping abuse. So whilst new customers can receive up to £175 and access our highly competitive Regular Saver, their switch also helps someone else take an important step towards a safer future. It's a simple yet powerful way for people to make a real difference whilst choosing a bank that shares their values."

Addressing a Critical Social Issue

Paula Robinson, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Refuge, highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives: "No woman or child should be made to feel unsafe in their own home. For many survivors of domestic abuse, access to safe accommodation can be the lifeline that makes escaping possible."

Robinson revealed that during the 2024–2025 period alone, Refuge supported over 1,400 women and their children through its refuge network. She noted: "With The Co-operative Bank's support, even more survivors will be able to find the safety they need to rebuild their lives – free from fear."

Refuge provides assistance to thousands of domestic abuse survivors daily and operates the National Domestic Abuse Helpline. According to the charity's statistics, more than one in four women across England and Wales will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime, with a woman killed by a current or former partner approximately every five days on average.

This banking initiative therefore represents not only a financial opportunity for consumers but also a meaningful contribution toward addressing a pervasive social problem affecting countless families across the country.
