Barclays has increased its bonus pool for 2026, offsetting the impact of a new UK bank tax introduced earlier this year. The move comes as the lender reported strong annual profits, driven by its investment banking division.
Bonus Pool Rise
The bank confirmed that the total bonus pool would be higher than the previous year, though it did not disclose the exact percentage increase. A spokesperson said the increase reflects the bank's performance and the need to retain top talent in a competitive market.
Impact of Bank Tax
The UK government introduced a new bank tax in the March Budget, which is expected to cost Barclays several hundred million pounds annually. Despite this, the bank has chosen to reward staff, citing robust revenue growth.
