Six benefits payments from Social Security Scotland will be disrupted next month due to the August summer bank holiday. The holiday falls on Monday, August 31 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, while Scotland observes it earlier on Monday, August 3.
Social Security Scotland confirmed to the Express that six benefits due on August 31 will be paid three days earlier on Friday, August 28. This is because Scottish banks tend to close on the same day as those in England and Wales for business reasons.
Affected Benefits
The six benefits affected include:
- Adult Disability Payment
- Carer Support Payment
- Child Disability Payment
- Pension Age Disability Payment
- Scottish Child Payment
- Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance
In Scotland, benefits issued by Social Security Scotland on the early bank holiday (August 3) will go ahead as normal.
DWP Payments Also Affected
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will also issue benefit and State Pension payments earlier than normal due to the summer bank holiday. Affected benefits include Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Pension Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Carer’s Allowance and the State Pension.
Claimants expecting these payments on Monday, August 31 will instead be paid on Friday, August 28. Explaining the changes, the DWP said: “Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before.”
