West Bromwich Albion is close to finalising a seven-figure deal to sign Falkirk striker Barney Stewart. The bumper deal will also include several future add-ons for the Bairns.
Transfer Details
Record Sport exclusively broke the story of the English Championship side’s interest and opening bid last month. James Morrison’s side has refused to go away, and their persistence is about to pay off. They have since upped the ante, as Falkirk refused to be bullied.
The 22-year-old travelled to the Midlands on Friday for talks. He has agreed terms on a four-year deal and will see him net a major wage lift. The final parts of the deal are now being thrashed out.
Falkirk's Stance
Falkirk turned down a number of offers from the Baggies and English League One sides, like Oxford United. Bairns boss John McGlynn was keen to keep his Scotland under-21 international, but it was very hard to stand in his way with the wages on the table.
Falkirk will get a significant fee for the player they signed from Heriot-Watt University back in 2024. Stewart had a standout season last year on loan at Dunfermline and then hit double figures with Falkirk when he went back to Falkirk.
Club Developments
Falkirk have already sold Calvin Miller to Hearts for a six-figure fee. There will be some money for McGlynn to strengthen his side further while some of it will also go to the cost of ripping up their artificial pitch and lay a grass one.
Falkirk have already strengthened their squad significantly this summer. Craig Sibbald, Ethan Laidlaw, Deniss Melniks, Jack McMillan and Paul McGovern have all checked in. Falkirk have also been linked with a possible move for Partick Thistle midfielder Ben Stanway.
