Swansea City Set to Appoint Crystal Palace Chief as Sporting Director

Swansea City are believed to be on the verge of appointing Ben Stevens as their new sporting director. Stevens, who currently serves as assistant sporting director at Crystal Palace, has agreed to join the Swans and is expected to be officially confirmed in his new role by the end of the week.

Stevens' Background

Stevens previously spent four years in performance analysis at Newcastle United before joining Crystal Palace in 2015. At Palace, he initially worked as head of performance analysis before transitioning into a recruitment role. He assumed his current position two years ago, a period that has coincided with the most successful era in Palace's history.

In the last 12 months, Crystal Palace has secured an FA Cup, a Community Shield, and a UEFA Conference League title. Stevens is now set to bring his expertise to Swansea, which has been searching for a new sporting director since Head of Recruitment Adam Worth departed in May.

Search Process

Worth had effectively stepped in to replace Director of Football Richard Montague, who left in September 2025. The club has conducted a rigorous search for a successor over recent weeks. Former Everton and Manchester United chief Steve Brown, as well as Swans legend Michu, were among the candidates interviewed.

Chief scout Jay Lefevre has been leading recruitment efforts on an interim basis as the search extended for nearly two months. However, Swansea has now settled on Stevens, with formalities completed after Crystal Palace's European campaign concluded.

It is understood that Swansea chose to wait and were mindful of respecting Palace's and Stevens' positions as they pursued an historic success in Leipzig. The exact remit of Stevens' role has not yet been clarified, but his arrival is expected to provide a significant boost for the Swans ahead of an important summer.
