David Coulthard has identified Carlos Sainz as a driver 'eyeballing' opportunities for 2027 due to his current frustrations at Williams. The Spaniard joined Williams last year when the team showed promise, but a difficult off-season has left them struggling with an overweight car and limited updates.
Frustration Visible
Coulthard noted visible frustration from both Sainz and teammate Alex Albon, but believes Sainz is looking for a way out. 'You can see the frustration for the drivers, visibly. I guess a bit more for Alex... he's embedded in that team. But Carlos? He's definitely eyeballing where his next opportunity lies,' Coulthard said.
Sainz has scored six of Williams' 11 points this season, but the team lags behind Alpine and Racing Bulls. Despite publicly committing to Williams, Sainz's long-term future remains uncertain.
Potential Moves
Red Bull could seek a Max Verstappen replacement if he leaves, while Alpine may revive interest in Sainz if Franco Colapinto fails to impress. Sainz has previously stated his commitment to Williams, but a competitive offer could tempt him away.
