Ross McCrorie's mother burst into tears this week when she learned her son was returning to Rangers after six years away. The 28-year-old academy graduate has rejoined the Ibrox club from Bristol City for a fee of £1.5 million, signing a three-year contract.
Maturation and Growth
McCrorie initially left Rangers in 2020 for a three-year stint at Aberdeen under Derek McInnes, followed by another three years at Bristol City in the English Championship. These experiences have transformed him from a shy youngster into a more assured character. He stated, "I've changed massively. It's about time I came back and I feel I'm ready now. I'm not that wee smiley-faced kid from back in the day that first broke through. I'm back here now and I want to come back and win trophies."
Reunion with Derek McInnes
McInnes, now manager of Rangers, previously persuaded McCrorie to join Aberdeen. McCrorie recalled, "The gaffer actually took me from Rangers to Aberdeen. I stayed out in East Kilbride and I remember him coming to my house to persuade me to go to Aberdeen. When you speak of the gaffer, he's a man who would run through brick walls for. He was a big influence on my career."
Emotional Homecoming
The defender's return has delighted his family. He shared, "I FaceTimed my mum and dad. I told them I'd just done a medical but they didn't know where I was going at the time. When I said I was coming back to Rangers my mum burst out crying and so did my dad! It's great for them, there's a lot of emotion because this club is a big part of my family."
Ambition to Win Trophies
McCrorie emphasized his desire to succeed at Rangers, saying, "I'm a Rangers man myself. I grew up in the stands. I used to go and travel to games with my dad on the Ayrshire bus. I know what this club means to the city of Glasgow and the Rangers fans out there. Winning is the only option. Anything else is a failure. For me, coming back, the big reason I came back here is obviously the gaffer and the trophies. I want to win trophies."
New Squad Number
McCrorie has taken the No. 2 shirt, previously worn by James Tavernier. He commented, "I'm really good friends with Tav. I've obviously played with Tav for a few years. He's known me since I was a little kid when I first broke in, so I've got a lot of respect for him. He's a legend at this club for what he's done. His stats, his goals, his assists are unbelievable for a full-back. I said to the gaffer, let's take No2 because that's my number."
